I first heard of P90X around January 2009 from some teammates in a basketball league (before I broke my arm).
I was recovering from hernia surgery in June 2008 and still had some pain / weakness in my right groin area. Most of my fitness background is as a runner but this discomfort had me afraid to go far from home, as one of my last runs I ended up walking over 2 miles to get home.
So I was definitely looking for a workout that would be challenging but that I could do at my own pace in my basement, so that if I was hurting I could just stop and go upstairs.
I did some online research and finally I got a set of dumbells and a pull-up bar and I bought the program.
Everything I read said that the diet was important. I'm a picky eater so I knew the diet would be a challenge for me, but I decided I could stick with it for a month and then either continue or modify the nutrition plan.
P90X incorporates one rest or stretch day each week. Since I work a 2nd job delivering pizzas on Mondays, I set up my schedule so that was my rest day.
So on Tuesday, May 5th 2009, I started the program. The workouts were certainly a challenge and I didn't keep up at first, but I was able to survive the first couple weeks as I was working my way into shape.
I had put on 20 lbs in the year of inactivity following my surgery, and between the workouts and the fat-shredder diet, I began shedding 2-4 lbs a week for the first few weeks. I was feeling so good that I knew I would be able to continue the nutrition plan for the entire 90 days!
And as time passed, I became better able to keep up with the workouts. I remember the excitement I felt the first time I was able to do 25 of each exercise during Ab-Ripper X!
In just 90 days in and have lost 29 lbs. My strength is much improved and after about 8 weeks I started adding some extra cardio (running & soccer playing) workouts a couple days each week.
I absolutely love the P90X program. I have invited various friends to my house to workout with me and without exception they were glad they came and wanted more information!
Promoting P90X is easy for me because of the results I am getting!
